Needs based giving is when a company has aligned their corporate giving strategy and strategically deployed their assets and resources to best meet the needs of the community. The reverse of this is when the decision of which cause or non profit organisation (NPO) to support is based, for example, on the personal motivations of the decision-maker, a donor appeal letter or the level of an NPO’s brand awareness. The latter approach, however, can lead to less impactful giving and more focus on achieving short-term goals.
